William Drabble’s bijou dining room is something of a well-kept secret in London, although how anyone could eat there & not shout about it afterwards is a wonder. The ex-Aubergine chef is a master of quietly impressive, contemporary French cuisine & has a larder of sensational British produce to work with. To start, native lobster tail with cauliflower purée & lobster butter sauce comes with a £10 supplement attached, but is hard to resist – even ahead of sweetbreads with a cep & onion ‘casserole’ or sea bass with Jerusalem artichokes (a favourite seasonal ingredient) & red wine reduction. Desserts are often precisely rendered explorations of a single ingredient – perhaps apple or chocolate. Richness defines the experience, though you don’t necessarily have to be rolling in it to eat here: wines start at £24, & three-course set lunches are £24.50.
