Few locations could be more corporate than the basement of the Chartered Accountants' Hall, but the well-presented lunchtime food on offer at One Moorgate Place adds some welcome colour and pizzazz to a rather anonymous space. Start with seared scallops, butternut-squash purée, beetroot and pancetta or roast quail with salted dates ahead of pan-fried sea bass with confit bacon, clams and sweetcorn or seared veal with veal bonbons, leeks and roasted garlic. As an accompaniment, the short wine list is replete with Meursault, Chablis and Rhônes at prices that won't break the budget. The decor is bright and modern, while service is attentive and efficient – which is just as well, since they promise to pick up the tab if the two-course express lunch menu (£16) isn't served within 30 minutes.
