Brick by brick, the regeneration of King’s Cross creeps along, & the latest encouraging sign is the arrival of this delightful British bistro. A shiny new penny on a dirty old street, it stands head & shoulders above less salubrious neighbours, with plain, airy surrounds & plenty of attention to detail: tables dressed with proper napkins & sweet little plants. The kitchen delivers simple yet well-executed seasonal dishes (starters £4, mains £12). Begin by savouring the delicate flavours of cured Scottish salmon with a cucumber salad, before getting your teeth around a more robust roast spring chicken breast with wild mushrooms & asparagus, finishing off with apple pie & custard or cinnamon ice cream (£5). There’s more seating in the former cellar downstairs – now a warm, exposed-brick space with its own bar. The next-door takeaway is handy for those on the go.

Was not very impressed – although premises were nicely fitted out. Waitress did not know what the soup of the day was. I ordered the pie of the day – what arrived was burnt – and frankly I've had much nicer pukka pies from a fish & chip shop for a lot less than £10. Lemon tart for desert was OK. Prices were high and didn't seem good value for money. Mandatory 12.5% service charge.

We had a really good time here one Friday afternoon a week or so ago. The staff were great, looking after you without getting in the way. The atmosphere is really relaxed and unpretensious, just friendly really. The house wine (we tried both the red and white) was far better than what I would normally expect for a house wine. Most of all, though, it's really good value, no-nonsence, tasty food, and that's what I want.
