Rosie Lovell’s seven-year-old Brixton Market set-up is a lesson in charm & character. Located amid the blaring reggae & halal butchers of the frenetic market, her deli-café is a little oasis of calm. Behind the counter, beside pinned-up artwork from regulars’ children, the spritely young Lovell pours the coffee. Nearby, fresh produce & jars of pickles are on display. In the dining area, funky media types mix with dreadlocked rastas over a sausage sarnie at breakfast, or perhaps a pecorino, artichoke & spinach ciabatta at lunch. Quiches, tarts, sandwiches, salads & cakes change daily, with many of the recipes featuring on Lovell’s blog. The site closes in the late afternoon, but as with any self-respecting food blogger, Lovell now runs regular supper clubs as well.
