West Hampstead’s coolest customer is a classy combination of vintage good looks (tons of bare lightbulbs dripping from the ceiling, exposed brickwork), zingy cocktails & a youthful vibe – ideal for NW6’s young professionals. The emphasis is on booze. Easy-drinking wines cost under £30; there’s Red Stripe on draught, Modelo by the bottle & a long list of cocktails (passionfruit margaritas & watermelon daiquiris included). Alice House also serves an ambitious menu – cider-steamed mussels, rabbit terrine, spatchcocked chicken with béarnaise sauce – but the cooking doesn’t always cut the mustard. Huge windows let in the light, & there’s a big (but usually packed) people-watching terrace. Such is the bar’s popularity that a second branch opened last year in nearby Queen’s Park (53-55 Salusbury Road, NW6 6NJ; 020 7624 0008).
