The West End branches of Burger & Lobster have proved a huge hit with London's foodies, and this EC1 outlet offers more of the same. As ever, a chalkboard menu advertises just three items: burgers (served with cheese and bacon at no extra charge), steamed or char-grilled lobster, and lobster rolls served in buttery toasted brioche with a lick of wasabi mayo – all £20, with chips and a token salad thrown in. It's fun and informal, although so-so food quality makes Burger & Lobster's USP of glamour-on-a-budget less discernible in Clerkenwell than in Mayfair. On the plus side, service remains quick, amiable and tight, and the interior's sassy, spacious mix of bare-brick walls and red-leather banquettes is comfortably familiar. Best of all: reservations are taken, though turn up without one before 7pm and you'll have the place to yourselves.
