This grungy younger sister to Broadway Market’s more sophisticated Cat & Mutton has had a mini makeover in shades of the fash pack’s favourite colour: black. Dark grey walls, an authentically sticky black carpet, studded black bar stools & deep purple drapes reverse the trend for sun-filled, whitewashed boozers – always a good thing. The London Fields is more about fun than fine wine, so you get DJs at the weekend – playing anything from indie disco to electro classics, via soul & boogie – live footie most days, & a menu of bar food (all dishes costing less than £10) that even offers homemade curry with ‘half rice, half chips’ (‘a northern classic’). Enjoy cold pints of Budvar, San Miguel, Red Stripe or Guinness, or a bottle of lip-staining New World red.
