Those on a low-carb diet should look away now. Owned by an artisan bakery that supplies The Fat Duck & Le Gavroche, Gail’s prides itself on lavish displays of cakes, pastries & crusty loaves. Founded in Hampstead in 2005, the mini-chain has spread across the capital, but ‘chemical-free’ bread is still at the heart of things, with Russian rye, hazelnut & raisin & sourdough available to take away or to enjoy with sandwiches, salads & seasonal soups; look out for the occasional exotic treat too (organic salmon ceviche tartine, for example). If you have room, it’s also worth indulging in sweet-toothed treats such as macaroons, chunky cookies, Chelsea buns & Eccles cakes. Fairtrade coffees, biodynamic teas & hot chocolate are the drinks of choice. There’s a definite New York deli feel to the interiors, with high ceilings, bare brick walls & stripped floors setting the mood.
Travel to Gail's Notting Hill in style with London's leading minicab firm Addison Lee.
