Square Meal Review of The Foyer at Claridge's ?

The reason why afternoon tea in The Foyer at Claridge’s continues to win gongs is down to a careful blend of tradition without stuffiness, plus just a smidgeon of innovation. While crust-free classics (smoked salmon & egg mayonnaise) all make it into the sandwich selection, other indispensable fillings are confidently jazzed up; cucumber comes with rocket & cream cheese, chicken with a dose of tarragon mayo. Further welcome twists might include hoummos with artichoke & pepper, or apple-flecked scones served with Marco Polo tea-infused jam. Patisserie such as mirabelle plum tart or vanilla & passion fruit cheesecake is far from predictable, & teas cover the spectrum. Ultimately, though, it’s the combination of art-deco grandeur, live chamber music, silver cake stands & ultra-attentive staff that make tea at Claridge’s ‘the most unforgettable memory’.

I've been to tea to a few places in London, the Ritz, the tea room and a few others, but Claridge's wins the prize for the most unforgettable memory.

Yes, it is a mix of touristy & ladies who lunch, but that didn't stop a girlfriend & me from enjoying a nice tea time on a weekday in late summer. The tea list is amazing & very thorough, we had champagne too, and that is well worth it.

Claridge's versus the Ritz- no comparison at all. Ritz is fussy & stuffy, Claridge's is what London is about, very British and discreet.

Highly recommended! Another good tea choice would be Sketch Parlour- for the 20-40 something set.
