Idiosyncratic & fun, this well-loved family diner has become a Crouch End fixture over the past 20 years. Chatty (if sometimes territorial) staff will guide you into a hippie haven that’s adorned with treasured tat: from a tray commemorating the royal wedding (Charles & Di – we’re talking vintage here) to a Peruvian woollen hat. The menu is just as eclectic, with ‘global home cooking’ that aims to please everyone. Breakfast is served all day, be it Jamaican (ackee, bacon, eggs, spicy beans, hash browns & roti) or British bubble & squeak with eggs. At night, when fruit smoothies give way to cocktails at the bar, vegetarians can tuck into black-bean chilli while meat lovers chomp on lamb kebabs. Puddings such as sticky toffee cake with butterscotch sauce should tempt all. Kids are coddled, with their own menu served until 7pm.
