Leave Upper Street far behind as you step through Slim Jim’s narrow front door & into downtown LA. Here you’ll find the brick walls, neon lights, 1950s’ soda-fountain bar stools & red leather booths of a proper hard-drinkin’ dive bar. The most-played list on the jukebox rock & rolls its way through Let it Bleed, Electric Ladyland & AC/DC Live. Weekly acoustic nights are held, as well as a monthly burlesque (though that doesn’t explain the forest of bras hanging from the rafters – those were swapped for shots). Bar staff dispense thirst-quenching cold draught beers, along with cocktails both classic & with a twist. If you’re serious about drink, though, you’ll need to get stuck into the rare & niche brands of Scotch, Tequila, rum & Irish whiskey.
