Dramatic candelabras & ‘decadent’ decor lift this striking bar-restaurant from the mundane to the alluring, & as such The Rock & Rose has become a ‘place to be seen’ for Richmond’s under-50s. The food’s not much cop – don’t come here for gourmet dining – but the kitchen sensibly limits its ambition, & the menu is chock-full of global classics; chilli salt squid with sweet chilli dipping sauce, monkfish curry & roast chicken with aïoli all feature. However opulent & over the top the interior, don’t be fooled into thinking this is an ideal venue for a romantic tête-à-tête. It’s quite possible you’ll be seated next to a yummy mummies’ night out. Bring a bunch of mates, have a couple of cocktails & go with the flow.
