As the regeneration of King’s Cross gathers pace, so Rotunda has upped its game with a new chef and a new menu – although the sapphire-blue seating and curved ceiling remain, and the food still
focuses on top-notch British ingredients. The meat – all sourced from Rotunda’s own farm in Northumberland – is exceptional: 12-hour lamb shoulder with buttered champ and peppered leeks is a
sticky, melting delight, while a slab of rump served with beef-dripping chips delivers layer upon layer of flavour. To finish, the show-stopping Winslade cheese (baked in Douglas Fir) outshines
desserts such as chocolate cake with salted caramel ice cream. A smart crowd appreciates the winning wine list, while those on their way to a concert at Kings Place can opt for the
‘pre-performance’ menu (two/three courses for £22.50/27.50). And when the sun’s out, it’s worth grabbing a table on the canal-side terrace.
WINE LIST: As bustling and energetic as its location near King’s Cross station, Rotunda’s list is an awful lot of fun. Divided by grape variety, there’s a decent mix of Old and New World on
offer, & the accompanying tasting notes are excellently (and amusingly) written, & provide a great help for wine novices to choose a bottle. BEST BUY WHITE 2009 Pascal Bouchard,

As bustling and
energetic as the nearby Kings Cross station, Rotunda’s list is an awful lot of fun. It’s easy to get through, well presented, and the tasting notes are, at times, works of genius – informative,
pithy, irreverent and sometimes laugh-out-loud funny. All in all, this list represents a terrific effort.
