Square Meal Review of Sushinho ?

Sleek, sexy & under-rated, Sushinho’s reputation may not extend far beyond SW3 but the King’s Road crowd go cock-a-hoop for its Japanese-meets-Brazilian offering. Bamboo, bare wood & exposed brickwork help set the mood in the low-lit interior, with hangers-on from the Made in Chelsea set perched at the lengthy bar. Cocktails are a source of pride, & the huge list pays homage to its dual nationality with drinks ranging from a super-sweet Brazilian candied mule to a well-executed saketini. South America plays second fiddle on the carte, with sushi & sashimi forming the backbone of the starters, while dishes such as Wagyu steak tartare take much of the limelight from a meat-heavy, Brazilian-inspired grill menu. Desserts opt for western indulgence tweaked with the odd oriental ingredient, & service is more than helpful.

The new Pizza Pucci! Finally, a King's Road restaurant with an atmosphere that could give the old Pizza Pucci a run for its money. The food is a lot better though and the service rather good. i have also rarely seen so many gorgeous women in one restaurant on a friday night. I will definitely be back!

Finally, a top end sushi restaurant that is taking the first big step! Taking tuna off the menu surely took a lot of guts and has to be commended.

Our meal was just great. It really was a fun and warm experience. The sushi was great (and we really didn't miss the tuna)! The warm dishes were perfectly cooked and quite unique. The wine list was surprisngly well put together and the cocktails looked great. Our desserts were delicious, especially the passion crumble. You just HAVE to order it!

The staff were so friendly and helpful, it really showed what bad service some restaurants were offering.

Price was a little more than we are used to but then the quality of the produce was just exceptional and the service so brilliant! Ww will be back for some more ‘moral’ sushi dining very soon!

While searching for a Sushi place south of High Street Ken, I managed to stumble across this gem. Restaurant looks really decent which is a good start. It's not busy early in the eve (7ish) but gets busier nearer 9 (apparently with regulars). Note they do a 2 hour table turn (which they advise when booking by phone), but to be fair it wasn't busy enough for them to actually commit to it on the eve we went.

The staff were really down to earth and friendly, which is certainly a bonus. The menu is not the largest but certainly has a range of flavours. Note that the SquareMeal suggestion of their Tuna is no longer an option – there's a note on the menu saying they no longer serve tuna due to it's endangered status.

We ordered two of the sushi platters plus a tempura set. One thing to note – other than one or two items, the rest of the platters all contain identical fish nigiri, so if we return we will probably select individual items rather than more than one platter options. As a party of 3, it was impressive to see that despite the menu suggesting there would be 2 of each item, some items on the platters came in 3's, which I always take to be a sign of a good restaurant.

And their cocktail menu is certainly worth a gander – I only managed 2 items from it but would certainly go back again (I recommend the Venison and dark chocolate martini – no it doesn't contain any animals but it tasted lovely and had dark chocolate chunk in the bottom instead of an olive)

Overall I was really impressed with the place and would definitely go back – need to try more of the chefs specials (spicy salmon roll is also recommended), and some of there actual plate options. Thumbs up!

I think Sushinho is a great addition to the locality and provides great Japanese cuisine at good prices. While it has a contemporary feel and a pretty cool interior it manages to feel somewhere slap bang in the middle of the Japanese venues – not too uptight with the booking policy or prices but still a long way up the ladder from the mainstream sushi places peppered around town. Although the menu looks quite short you will find enough dishes to keep you well occupied. A fantastic bar team will keep the cocktails flowing as well. Again I had to rush my lunch a little due to work but plan to return soon as possible especially after a report from a friend of a great group dinner they had the other week. Will update as soon as!

After seeing the below negative review, I just had to put in some words…

My wife and I had dinner at Sushinho last Thursday and had a wonderful time. The staff was very helpful and made excellent recommendations. We started off with the pimenta prawns which were beautifully crispy and had the right level of spicy-ness. This was followed by the small sushinho sushi platter which was not only very colourful but also quite delicious. The ‘brazilian’ type sushi were particularly special, some had fruits, and others crispy flakes. We also had a nigiri sushi with tuna and seared foie gras which was divine. Then we had the special Lobster dish which was incredible, much better then similar offerings from Nobu or Asia de Cuba. We also tried the Seabass which was beautifully cooked with a salty crispy skin and a tangy salsa. Then we had a portion of the sirloin steak which was cooked to perfection and came with two stunning dipping sauces.

For dessert we shared the passionfruit brulle, which is probably the best dessert I had all year.

The atmosphere was also great, with just the right amount of background music (mainly brazilian beats). The interior and decor is also rather special, lots of wood and open brick. There is also a lovely fireplace in the center. All very un-Nobu-like really. The lighting is also superb. The spotlights over the bricks is a brilliant touch. They seem to have put a lot of care into this place.

As for prices, the final bill came to around £135 (including service and a bottle of wonderful brazilian house white for a very reasonable £17). Not cheap, but considering the quality of food and location of the restaurant pretty good value for money. I believe the last time my wife and I visited Asia de Cuba our bill came to well over £200 and the most recent Nobu bill came to just uner £300. So yes, we would happily recommend Sushinho.

Went here last night after reading some good reviews, and general curiosity over how this fusion would work. To sum up, seems like a wannabe Asia de Cuba. The food had great potential, but let down by simple finishing touches, the seabass and pork belly both great, but really needed salt, conversely, the grilled vegetables had too much salt. The sushi was fresh and tasty, even if it was served without soy sauce.

The real let down came from the service, after sitting down waited 5mins to be given a menu, table was set on the leaning tower of pisa (trivial, but annoying), food was not served in the order i asked (sushi first), and was nearly charged for a dish we ordered but did not arrive. To top it off, the waitress stank like a beast.

A real let down, as the food could be great, especially if it was delivered by good service. And for the price (circa £100 for 2 with drinks), you may as well go to Asia de cuba where the little extra goes many miles further…

I’ve lived in London for more than 8 years and consider myself well versed in the culinary offerings of this great city. One drawback is that I seldom find myself pleasantly surprised by a new restaurant openings. Sushinho, however, gave me plenty to get excited about! First and foremost, the food was excellent. From the quality ingredients to the presentation, it’s evident that much thought went into this menu. Also, as a Brazilian / Japanese fusion restaurant it must be unique in London right now. Then to the drinks; the bar is stacked with very exciting bottles indeed. How about Suntory whiskey from Japan, as featured in the film “Lost in Translation”? I just had to have a glass of that! Also, the “Sakerinhias” were quite the novelty. I’m no wine expert, but there was an impressive spread of interesting looking vintages from all around the world. Finally, the décor; very relaxing, spacious seating arrangement and beautiful lighting. It’s so generous with space I wonder how they can turn a profit! Anyway, who cares! Go there and enjoy before it becomes inundated!

Went to Sushinho last night for dinner with two friends and thought it was really good. I had seen the place advertised in various publications and , as a Brazilian myself, I was very keen to try it out as soon as they opened. The food was cooked to an excellent standard (definitely comparable to the best sushi/Japanese restaurants in Rio and Sao Paulo) and the cocktails were amazing. Well done to the mixologist! For those who haven’t tried Japanese – Brazilian style, this is definitely a good place to start. The place has a really cool vibe and the whole atmosphere was just right. Overall, a great place…
