Since the closure of Lundum’s, local Danes have been starved of quality restaurants to fly their national flag. Step forward Madsen, a relaxed, stylish venture from fledgling restaurateur Charlotte Madsen. The cool, clean surrounds are complemented by light, beautifully presented modern European cooking with a Scandinavian accent. Depending on the season, you might kick off with a piquant steak tartare with rye bread croûtons before moving on to a traditional dish of stegt rødspætte (pan-fried plaice with a jug of melted butter). During the week, Madsen does a roaring trade in lunchtime smørrebrød (Danish open sandwiches topped with the likes of roast pork & red cabbage), herring platters & salads, while on special occasions everyone’s invited for the £25 smörgåsbord buffet. On sunny days, floor-to-ceiling glass doors open onto the patio, while beaming staff will provide blankets in case of a North Sea breeze.

A very friendly and good restaurant and a worthy successor of Ludlum's which used to fly the Danish flag until recently just down the road. The good location helps, but the Skandinavian fare on offer is worth a trip accross town. Madsen had been successful caterer's before which shows in their efficiency and professionalism. A great new place in K&C.
