Run along the same lines as the hugely popular Notting Hill original, this new Bumpkin gives the area’s glossy yokels – sorry, locals – the country farmhouse they’ve always dreamt of. Balancing reclaimed wood floors with designer wallpaper, it manages to be simultaneously cosy, casual & chic – though the din can reach fever pitch. Local & seasonal dishes are the order of the day: you might kick off with a jumble of black pudding chunks, braised leeks & caramelised apple wedges, followed by a signature Charter pie packed with steaming chicken & vegetables. Puddings are equally homely (think tangy apple, sultana & raspberry streusel with clotted cream), while the wine list has plenty of choice by the glass & carafe. Flexible daytime menus please the crowds & the multi-functional space encompasses a private room, alfresco terrace & cocktail bar; there are even seats upfront for walk-ins, but be prepared to wait.
