Square Meal Review of Mint Leaf Lounge (bar) ?

The moodily glamorous environs of a cavernous, one-time banking hall add a certain decorative sparkle to drinks at the urbane Mint Leaf Lounge, sister to the Haymarket original. Obligatory Champagnes & a clutch of wines by the glass supplement the long & dashing cocktail list, which blends premium spirits & intriguing flavours to startling effect: try the sushi martini (Blackwood’s cucumber vodka shaken with wasabi paste, fresh ginger, lime juice & syrup). There are some classy Indian nibbles if solids are required (think stir-fried pork belly with curried yoghurt), while those in need of privacy should hire a leather booth in the hideaway Champagne bar on the mezzanine.

A stunning venue – once you have found it! Discreetly tucked away in the heart of the City. The bar is striking on entrance – all the spirits glowing along the pebbled walls. Extensive cocktail list definitely tempts you to stay til you've tried them all!! Which is fine during happy hour when they're 2-for-1!! :-)
Bar snacks also really tasty, in the comfort of the relaxing lounge area – upstairs mezzanine champagne bar would be perfect for private drinks party.
Beautiful bar, definitely worth a tipple!

We were a large group of girls going out for a good bye meal [in the restaurant side) and taking advantage of an internet discount offer (why not). Unfortunately, we had not been told that the offer would not be available as there were more than 10 of us (until they bought the bill round that is). When we were ordering they offered rather than taking individual orders to just make a selection and put it in the middle of the table ! which 1 would have been ridiculous as the table was so huge no-one would have been able to reach, and 2 as we had so many it was nigh on impossible to make everyone happy. We decided to opt out of the starter fiasco and went straight to mains. However, nibbles where put out on the table at no request of us only to find out they were on the bill afterwards too ! cheeky… The drinks order before dinner was also a mess up. I must admit the food that we did have was very nice but the rest of the ambience did not make for a good evening.

So all in all been there, seen it, done it – not going back…

I'm afraid I can't really provide much of a review on the food and drink at mint Leaf Lounge Bar, because despite a willingness to splurge on a minimum spend of £2500 (in hindsight this was very stupid indeed) the opportunity was denied by their by poorsighted events and management team. To elaborate, we had agreed to hire out the mezzanine champagne bar for a private party on a Saturday and had on several occasions questioned the availability of a saturday opening (knowing the city and its tendancy for being rather dead on weekends) only to be met with a positive yes. Whilst on holiday last week we were emailed (not even phoned!) to say after one weekend opening the management deemed it was not in their interest to open on weekends! Well even the village idiot could have predicted this, but what annoys one even more is the number of times we had sought assurance only to be met with the inevitable in the end anyway. It beggars belief how the events manager manages to get any bookings or profit in general for the restaurant when she can't even remember her own quotes! Bottom line: If you want a reliable venue for a special occasion – For god's sake don't do it here!
