A favourite with Islington’s in-crowd, this delightfully ramshackle & gloriously decadent bar has carved out an enviable reputation for its usual-suspect cocktails – aka ‘concoctions’ – as well as its dainty ‘iced tea pots’ (£20 a go). The London fog cutter (heavy on the gin, rum & Cognac) is a standout, but also try the signature Prince Albert (a startling concoction that involves layering Chambord, Guinness & Champagne in a flute). Food isn’t really the point, but decent toasted crumpets, pork pies & sausage sandwiches provide much-needed ballast. Live bands appear regularly, cool-as-houses DJs do their stuff until 3am at the weekends, & the Thursday night two-for-one offer lasts until closing time – no wonder the bar staff look as if they’re having as much fun as the dressed-up punters.
