One of the few places in town where you’ll see a disco ball dangling from a chandelier, The Distillers flaunts itself with blowsy window drapes, ornate candelabra, garish wallpaper & lofty coffered ceilings. This Smithfield boozing den also has a down-to-earth side, promoting poker sessions, quiz nights, regular live gigs from up-&-coming acts, & 2-for-1 cocktails before 8pm. The flamboyant, slightly camp surrounds won’t suit those looking for a spit-&-sawdust watering hole, although the monthly menu promises reasonably priced, gustatory satisfaction in the form of pies, burgers, fish & chips & steaks, plus a few flashier items. Sharp’s Doom Bar, Directors Bitter, Tiger & Sagres are among the draught beers that compete for attention with familiar shots & a cursory wine list.
