Square Meal review of Kyashii:
Kyashii is the basement restaurant in the new Covent Garden branch of the Kingly Club. It looks stunning: all light, bright & vaguely sci-fi, from the gleaming white of the tables, seating & floor tiles to the blue back-lighting of the fish tanks set into the walls. The menus tout Western-influenced Japanese food but, despite the profusion of luxury ingredients put to good use, portions are far too small to merit the pricing. An amuse bouche of yellowtail sashimi sitting in a miso broth & garnished with a slice of black truffle preceded an impressively rich starter of Wagyu beef & foie gras dumplings (£18.50). To follow, lamb cutlets marinated in white miso with blue cheese dumpling & dark miso sauce (£29.50) had perfectly pink meat well matched to its sweet accompaniments, while green-tea doughnuts filled with apple compote & accompanied by Bramley apple sorbet was a pleasant finish. Sushi & sashimi are also available & can be sampled in the chic street-level bar, washed down with excellent cocktails.
