Square Meal review of Plane Food:
Saying that Terminal 5’s Plane Food is Britain’s best airport caterer may not sound like fulsome praise, but Gordon Ramsay’s new Heathrow venture is a refreshing change from the ubiquitous chains. Its 60s-style interior is a slick, feel-good space comfortably removed from the main concourse’s hubbub. The menu jets its way through traveller-friendly salads, sandwiches, pasta & grills with generally pleasing results: escalope of veal with caper butter, & a lime parfait both showed a light touch. Other ideas are more dubious (salmon, chilli & pink grapefruit ceviche had precious little flavour) & prices can seem unreasonable (toasted fontina cheese & tomato sandwich is £8.50). The menu allows diners to choose a single dish without being sniffed at, but spending up to £45 a head on a workmanlike airport meal will not be to everyone’s taste. Still, for those seeking a little peace & quiet, Plane Food is most welcome.
