Square Meal review of The Beehive:
Claudio Pulze is better known as the entrepreneur behind restaurants such as Zafferano, but his latest venture is this Marylebone watering hole. He is keen to stress that The Beehive is not a ‘gastropub’, although top-quality ingredients and a weekly-changing menu lift it well above the average boozer. There’s no fuss – just a handful of simple, carefully executed dishes, often with a Mediterranean accent. Highlights have included grilled mackerel with a tomato, olive & caper salsa & lamb ‘bruschetta’ (griddled bread loaded with sweet red peppers & fat, juicy chops). Côte de boeuf – 900g of top-notch Cambrian beef with chips & béarnaise sauce – remains a favourite for sharing. Alongside the global wine list (which includes plenty by the glass) is a decent selection of beers & cider. Factor in the airy interior, sunny picnic tables & amiable staff, & it’s easy to see why The Beehive is already buzzing with genteel locals.
