Flying the flag for England, Bourne & Hollingsworth plies its wares from the bottom of a rickety stairwell south of Charlotte Street. The minuscule basement bar has made a name for itself serving cocktails on linen-dressed tables, often from dinky little china teacups – Prohibition style. Try the gardener’s tea break (a refreshing mix of Hendrick’s gin, cucumber, lemon juice & green tea syrup, shaken with ice & garnished with sprigs of fresh mint), or perhaps a knickerbocker – golden rum with orange liqueur, raspberry syrup & lemon juice, served in an old jam jar; alternatively, ask the bartender to create something special for you. Come summer, regulars get togged up for a 1920s-themed summer picnic, complete with cricket, croquet & games of tennis.
