Square Meal review of The Coburg at The Connaught:
After a major revamp, The Connaught’s two public bars will be at the hub of Mayfair society again this year. The American Bar is still under wraps but The Coburg, the hotel’s rebranded main lounge, is already open. The room’s features have been retained and reworked in taupe and dark jam tones to convey a sense of unfussy luxury. The £12 cocktails are reliable, with an interesting list that traces the drink’s origins from late 20th-century conceits such as Dick Bradsell’s espresso martini via the sidecar of the 1920s all the way back to sours. A serious drinks list includes Laurent-Perrier Brut Premier Champagne for £60, upmarket Pauillac and Puligny-Montrachet by the glass at £45 and £27.50 respectively, and Oban 32-year-old whisky at £55.
