The Light at Towner, a Scandinavian-inspired restaurant, has brought a brand new way of eating to Eastbourne. Not only does The Light offer everything from smorrebrod and coffee to set menus on a Friday and Saturday evening, it also hosts private events, offering exclusive access to some of the Towner’s many exhibitions.
The restaurant can be found on the second floor of the Towner, a purpose-built, Turner Prize hosting gallery, located in the heart of Eastbourne’s Devonshire Quarter. The Light makes the most of the building’s towering ceilings and skyline views.
For breakfast, you can choose from a variety of trusty staples such as eggs and bacon, or mushrooms on sourdough toast. However, you could also try cardamom muesli, malted lemon crepes or tofu menemen. There are also a variety of ‘sunrisers’ to choose from, whether that’s a Bloody Mary or a Cornflake Milk Punch.
A visit isn’t complete without trying smorrebrod, an open sandwich served on rye bread. From classics such as pickled herring served with eggs, samphire and sour cream, to charred plums served with whipped feta and toasted almonds, there’s something for everyone.
There are also a variety of smaller and larger plates available at lunchtime from crudites or wood smoked burrata to roasted aubergine or lemon sole. If you’re looking for an afternoon tea, The Light offers a classic cream tea along with a taster of smorrebrod and a trio of desserts.
On a Friday and Saturday evening, there are also a variety of sundowners and snacks to choose from. You can nibble on Rebel Rebel cured meats or Exmoor Osertra caviar while sipping on a Plum & Cinnamon Sour.
In the evening, you can enjoy a pre-theatre set menu, a five course set menu or you can simply pick from the evening menu.
