Square Meal Review of Zoilo ?

Arresting flavours and a national love of handheld ‘patties’ make Argentinian food ripe for the small-plate treatment, and chef Diego Jacquet’s tastes of home generally repay devil-may-care ordering. No wonder Zoilo is good for groups, despite the date-friendly dim lighting and cheek-by-jowl seating. Head downstairs to the basement kitchen bar or stay at street level if you fancy considering the Argentinian wine list in a less highly charged atmosphere. Neat empanadas or molten provoleta with almonds and oregano honey are the obvious places to begin; after that, it’s tempting to go straight to asado-style steak with garlic-strewn ‘provenzal’ chips, although salads of, say, asparagus, leek custard, capers, anchovies and Parmesan are treated with equal care. We’d also recommend the desserts – try the milk cake with passion fruit sorbet or a couple of alfajores cookies with coffee.
