The redevelopment of the roads outside Adam Byatt’s special-occasion big hitter was reason enough for an update of the restaurant too. Now decked out in elegant greys and blues, Trinity exudes confidence as the chef delivers his own brand of contemporary cooking with “real skill and precision”. Earthy flavours emanate from the new open kitchen – witness the signature crispy trotter with sauce gribiche or the sweet/salt delights of Moroccan-spiced goat shoulder, served with a rack of goat ribs, date purée and toasted buckwheat. Other ideas are more delicate (carpaccio of tuna with avocado, sesame and lime, for example), while dessert might offer pear tarte Tatin with liquorice ice cream. Those wanting something less formal can now head Upstairs, where communal tables overlook the new piazza and a 12-dish tapas-style menu is served from a separate grill-led kitchen. Wednesday was 'Date Night', and a recent flurry of cooking for (many, many) friends meant a well deserved meal out for the two of us and we chose a classic, firm favourite 'Trinity' in Clapham.The restaurant is hidden away off the main 'Old Town' stretch and upon entering the restaurant you are transported to a wonderful fine-dining(-esque) room which has more of a laid back modern feel to it and isn't in the slightest bit stuffy, like so many are...
