After finding success in Crouch End, Tootoomoo has expanded across North London, opening buzzy, pan-Asian restaurants in Whetstone and in Islington. The latter has a brilliant location just a few minutes walk from Highbury & Islington station, making it the perfect place to gather some friends for a continent-spanning meal that takes in hits from Malaysia, China, Japan, Korea, Thailand, Vietnam and more, all under one menu.
Inside this cosy restaurant has plenty of areas for large and small groups, as well as a counter by the window where you can watch the world go by with some small plates. At the far end of the restaurant, an open kitchen provides a glimpse behind the scenes as your dishes are prepared.
The menu takes you on a whistlestop tour of Asia, from fiery curries and wok-fried noodle dishes of Thailand, all the way through to Japanese donburi rice bowls and crispy Korean fried chicken. Whatever your favourite dish is, you’re bound to find something on the menu that takes your fancy.
If dumplings are your thing, Tootoomoo boasts a whole section of the menu devoted to classic dim sum and dumplings, including prawn har gao, pork and prawn dumplings as well as Korean mandu dumplings. The small plates section includes yet more favourites, from spring rolls and gyozas to sticky, miso-glazed aubergine and crispy miso tofu.
Tootoomoo is a great option for vegans and vegetarians as well, as there are lots of plant-based options across the menu, including seaweed salads, Szechuan chilli tofu, veggie curries, vegetable pad Thais and more.
The drinks menu also covers a wide range of Asian flavours, including draught Japanese beers, ciders, soft drinks and a variety of boba teas. There are also cocktails, including classics like a vodka martini, and house mixes like the Tootoomojito - a mojito with passion fruit.
