Situated in the heart of Soho, Tombo Poké & Matcha Bar offers a light, daytime alternative to the burger joints and heaving steakhouses nearby. Following the success of the Tombo Café in South Ken, owner Louis’ latest opening is a decidedly more casual affair, with a till ordering system and a focus on cold dishes inspired by traditional Hawaiian poké. Matcha fans can also find a selection of drinks and desserts boasting such an intense green colour that it’s possible to believe even the vanilla infused ice-cream sundae is healthy. The menu is simple and prices are low – you can build your own poké bowl with all the trimmings for less the £10. If you’re craving carbs, red meat or mood lighting, this definitely isn’t your best bet, but for a healthy, day-time pit-stop, it ticks all the boxes.
That pok& is now ‘a thing’ in London is weird one for me – and seems kinda random. There are at least three eateries (that I know of) now open in town with pok& as the main menu item. It’s “the next ceviche” I’ve been told (more than a few times) when I mention that I think this trend is odd.Anybody with any experience of devouring a mound of pok& in its native home of Hawaii knows, the raw fish dish is more something you’d except to have been made by some local granny to be purchased for cheap at a petrol station

Tombo Poke and Matcha bar is a cute little caf& in Seven Dials bringing the Hawaiian cusine to your lucky faces. I was invited along with a friend for a light dinner, which could not have been more perfect for the warm and sunny day we were experiencing. Poke, if you don’t know, is basically a sushi bowl. Diced chunks of raw fish sit on a salad, the construction of which is up to you if you like, or you can go for one of Tombo&s signature bowls.
