Despite a few quirks, this split-level restaurant generally offers satisfaction with its trendy mix of whitewashed walls, wood, glass and metal, while the food mixes flavours from around the globe.
Grilled skewers served with pitta bread and apple coleslaw are one of the better things on the menu, but also expect an eclectic line-up taking in the likes of seared chilli and ginger beef salad,
spiced lamb burgers, or memorable goats’ cheese and pumpkin pasty with kale, roast beetroot and baby potatoes. There are also some more cheffy ideas ranging from steamed sea bass with asparagus,
radish and salsa verde to Asian-style twice-cooked pork belly with honey-mustard pears, while desserts could feature aromatic plum tarte Tatin with ginger ice cream. The main downside of this
restaurant is wildly erratic service – although outstanding Castle views help to make amends.
The Outsider is a well-established restaurant on George IV Bridge.
