Square Meal Review of The Orange ?

The shabby-chic bar at this stucco-fronted boozer, restaurant and hotel heaves with well-off Pimlico types, who congregate outside when the sun shines and pack the room for decent drinks: the cocktails are good, there are a fair number of beers on tap and the bubbly’s always cold. The restaurant proper is upstairs, where there’s burble but not the bustle from the madding crowds below. Like its sibling The Thomas Cubitt, the menu here is an all-round British pleaser, moving from seared scallops with chorizo and samphire via Goosnargh duck breast with celeriac and sour cherries to marmalade bread-and-butter pudding or slow-roasted quince with yoghurt and blackberry jelly. There’s also a creditable range of wood-fired pizzas and salads. It’s not a place to cross town for, but as a local “for any occasion”, The Orange works brilliantly.
