SquareMeal Review of The Fire Station

Brentford’s firefighters of yore might be bemused to discover the use to which their impressive red-brick edifice is being put in the 21st century. At ground level is a Cuban-themed bar, with vibrant murals of Che Guevara & 1950s automobiles on the walls; here you will find the local beau monde sipping cocktails such as ‘pump my Kir’ (Chambord topped with Prosecco) as they wolf down burgers & wraps. Up the spiral staircase is a more sedate restaurant, contemporarily furnished with smart chairs & light wooden flooring. The menu is a slightly eccentric mix of European & Middle Eastern food, moving from chicken skewers on mango salad, via an Iranian stew of lamb with split peas & dried lime or mussels in a creamy white wine sauce to warm apple pie ‘drowned in custard’. The second floor holds a private function room.
