Square Meal Review of The Chancery ?

Modern Brit artwork from the likes of Tess Jaray and Michael Landy has given The Chancery’s slick, but rather lacklustre interiors a lift, and the appointment of chef Graham Long (ex-Pied à Terre) suggests the owners are upping the ante on the food front too. Long’s enthusiasm is matched by a clear understanding of texture and flavour, exemplified by plates of new season’s lamb rump with crispy tongue, broad beans and confit fennel or Parmesan-crusted pollack with pig’s trotter, ceps and braised celery. Elsewhere, Asian ingredients get a look-in – witness raw scallops served with cucumber jelly, shards of sesame filo and a zingy shiso dressing. Fixed-price menus are good value, although more wines by the glass would be welcome. Still, this rather exclusive place is a diamond for “special occasions” away from the City’s madding crowd.

The Food Connoisseur :: Elegant dining – The Chancery

The Chancery is one of those places with glowing reviews, highly praised for good value fine dining. What luck I had when I saw it appear on “tastecard” offers and decided to book for my birthday last year.

Hidden behind the backstreets of Chancery Lane Main Street. The restaurant has simple white wash walls to flood natural daylight. Dining tables draped with pure white cloths.

There was a 3-course meal on offer for £39.50, however when we got there the menu had change. The manager kindly told us we could have something similar...

vialaporte :: The Chancery // Holborn // London

The Chancery restaurant has provoked one of vialaporte’s biggest debates, caused by some exceptional cooking and some not up to scratch service. Despite the confusion, we think diners should make up their own minds on this one by giving it a try.

    Orchestrated by chef Simon Christey-French...

Wrap Your Lips Around This :: The Chancery

The Chancery is currently celebrating its 10 year anniversary as well as the appointment of new Executive Chef, Graham Long, previously of Michelin starred Pied a Terre. As such, it seems an opportune moment to review this City stalwart.

The restaurant spans a modestly sized dining room and a smaller downstairs bar. A new addition to this limited space is a separately located private dining area with a capacity of 35, boasting a flat screen large enough to appease the most ardent of football fans.

This move away from enforced fine-dining and into a mode of service that puts the customers needs...
