TAQ is a Mexican restaurant and taqueria in Westbourne Grove, guided by the combined talents of chefs Eduardo Yishima and Jackson Boxer. This used to be Notting Hill restaurant Taqueria - a neighbourhood staple for two decades, but in 2025 the restaurant rebranded and changed direction, inviting Boxer to help chart a new course after he relaunched his Notting Hill restaurant Orasay as Dove.
What emerges is a restaurant that honours Taqueria’s roots while injecting a wholly refreshed identity and menu. Boxer’s connection to the place runs deep - his very first taco in London was eaten here - and his motivation to revitalise the site rather than see it drift into chain-restaurant anonymity sets the tone for TAQ’s renewed spirit. Recognising an opportunity, Boxer brought in his friend Eduardo Yishima, a graduate of the Instituto Mexicano de Gastronomía with experience across Mexico and London, including CDMX Tacos in Soho and Side Hustle at The NoMad. Eduardo now leads the kitchen as Culinary Director, with the existing Taqueria team remaining firmly in place.
TAQ’s menu centres on a simple but compelling promise: fresh, hot tortillas layered with high-quality grilled meats, vibrant salsas, cold beers and crowd-pleasing margaritas. Classic staples - tacos, tostadas, quesadillas - form the foundations, but the blackboard specials reveal the chefs’ playful ambitions. Expect dishes like a Fish Torta inspired by Eduardo’s favourite Orasay snack, and a taco spin on Dove’s cult cheeseburger, featuring dry-aged beef basted in smoked beef fat, red Leicester and pickled jalapeños on toasted corn tortilla. The core menu ranges from tempura fish tacos with macha mayo to crisp tostadas topped with tuna or chicken in green mole, while sides include chorizo croquettas, shrimp taco dorados and TAQ’s signature tostaditos seasoned with annatto and smoked peppers.
A concise drinks list keeps things breezy: £10 margaritas, palomas, mezcalitas and sunny Mexican lagers.
