Square Meal Review of Sticky Walnut ?

A “fantastic little bistro” tucked away in a suburb of Chester, the Sticky Walnut was dreamed up by young chef Gary Usher – a veteran of big-name kitchens such as Chez Bruce, York & Albany and various Jamie Oliver outlets. As you might expect, the food has some Italian accents – from pea and parsley risotto to chicken breast with gnocchi, broad bean salsa, turnips and lemon purée – but other influences are never far away. Hake ceviche comes with pickled courgette, lime, chilli and samphire, roast stone bass is paired with saffron paella, and there’s sticky toffee pudding with praline parfait for afters. The eponymous nuts also pop up in salads, superb breads and suchlike. “Wonderful service” and a well-spread wine list seal the deal, and this quirky neighbourhood eatery also has the “funniest Twitter account ever”, according to one follower.

    Nomface :: Sticky Walnut, Chester

    We finally made it to Sticky Walnut one Friday night. Being based in Chester it is out the way for us being south of in-between Manchester and Liverpool. With Mr Nom working in Wrexham one week he suggested we make a booking. However with it being just after rush hour on a Friday evening it was quite a horrendous drive from Manchester whilst Mr Nom cantered in from nearby Wrexham.
