Square Meal Review of Soif ?

“Can’t stop recommending it” exclaims a devotee of Battersea Rise’s casual French wine bar and restaurant. We concur: Soif is still streets ahead of the local competition. The daily menu doesn’t only base itself on Gallic soil – charcuterie features heavily, but Italian coppa is listed alongside rillettes and cornichons; Lindisfarne oysters are up there with Gorgonzola and burrata – though classic French-Mediterranean flavours are the mainstay. Whether you eat tapas-style (clams, chilli, garlic and lemon, say) or go for a more formal meal (Montbéliard sausage with choucroute and potatoes, followed by pannacotta), the cooking is invariably up to scratch. Staff are keen their customers enjoy themselves, and happily make recommendations from the huge and impressive list of organic and ‘natural’ terroir-led wines and French ciders. The split-level room decorated with French posters soon fills, but hard wooden chairs discourage lingering, so tables usually aren’t long in coming free.

  1. 10 of us decided it had been too long and a while back settled on a local SW London restaurant to celebrate a member's return back on home soil from the gorgeous Pariee! French inspired Soif was the perfect choice, it also conveniently happens to be bang in the middle for each and every one of us.
Soif's décor is typically French inspired, random old French posters and pictures adorn the walls. Gorgeous tiled tables and miss-matched furniture make this a vibrant and relaxed atmosphere, perfect in our case for larger groups!

We went 'all out' on both wine and food. Soif's wine list is impressive (and...

  1. 10 of us decided it had been too long and a while back settled on a local SW London restaurant to celebrate a return, back on home soil, from the gorgeous Pariee! French inspired 'Soif' was the perfect choice.

Now, not wanting to be an overly boring blogger I kept my camera at bay as much as possible unless people insisted which (thank you) many did! A lot of Soif's delicious plates slipped through due to the menu being heavy on 'sharing is caring' and trying to keep five hungry boys' paws off a plate of food, just so you can take a snap, isn't exactly an easy task!!

    Soif's décor is typically French....

  1. S & F were the latest to announce their impending arrival, and get hitched, so we headed to Soif for a mid week congratulatory toast. After enjoying Sunday lunch there not so long ago, I was keen to try dinner - and I was not disappointed. The terrine was one of the best I've eaten and had me vaguely thinking I should try making one at home to really impress Miss B and Lizzie next time I have them round for dinner. Then I slapped myself and decided I'd just swing by Soif and pick some up. Job done...

Sybaricious :: A Spring Clean: Bistro Blitz

Now that there seems to be an occasional hint of sun in the sky (may I not jinx it by saying this) and the daffodils are poking through I decided to have a bit of a spring clean of the old drafts folder. Sure enough, tucked amongst the published posts I found a heap of places that for one reason or another never made it into a full on blog post. Not because they weren't good by any means, more often becuase I got busy and never got round to the full write up. Or that the photos were rubbish and who doesn't like a good photo? So here they are a brief memory dump of some of the more interesting meals I've eaten recently....

Dips Dines :: Soif - Nothing Beyond OK (if that) | Dips Dines

With it being a sibling of ‘Terroirs’ and ‘Brawn’ (both reputable dining spots in London), I had moderately high expectations for my dinner at Soif.

Soif is a casual dining restaurant in Battersea dishing up typical French brasserie style food...

  1. Soif is one of those wonderfully, relaxed places we tend to head to un-planned. Last week saw some beautiful British summer evenings and therefore meant a spontaneous drink in the sun on Soif's terrace.

Their menu changes daily, depending on supplies, and thus meaning we never tire of eating here and the food is really fresh. The menu is perfect for sharing, never seems to falter and heavenly when sat outside with the sun on your face and a glass of rose in hand...

We weren't hugely hungry and therefore just decided on a couple of their starters to share between the two of us. Beginning with some...
