For years, Kaushy Patel and family simply dispensed their samosas and other street snacks from a serving hatch, but these days they’re happily ensconced in rather more sophisticated, sit-down
premises. The crowds come here for highly flavoursome Indian vegetarian food, and you can get a taste of things by ordering the mixed platter to start: pethis (spiced coconut balls, deep fried in a
fluffy potato coating) and rhengham bhajia (thin sliced aubergines in crispy batter) sit alongside light-as-clouds dhokra (a wonderfully nuanced savoury steamed sponge). To follow, don’t miss the
mind-blowing masala dosas – rolled rice-flour pancakes stuffed with spiced potato and onions, with spiky lentil sambar and cool coconut chutney on the side. Prashad means ‘blessed food’, and you
certainly feel beatific after a meal here. Unlicensed.
