Square Meal Review of Pétrus ?

Tailor-made for ‘special dinners’, serious business and family outings, this Belgravia outpost of the Gordon Ramsay empire is a quietly successful all-rounder rather than a hyped-up headline act. ‘Superb high-end cooking’ is the draw, and protégé Sean Burbidge has the credentials to deliver aristocratic Michelin-starred food – from lobster and salmon ravioli with silky Champagne and chive velouté to roast duck breast, confit leg and granola, invigorated with spring onion and Szechuan-pepper jus. Eye-popping desserts such as the chocolate sphere with milk ice cream and honeycomb are marvels of theatricality, and meals are lovingly interspersed with little extras, such as the chocolates served with dry ice. As befits the name, the dining room’s lush creamy colours are accentuated with touches of claret, although pride of place goes to the glass-walled, walk-in wine cellar housing covetable bottles of titular Château Pétrus. Meanwhile, assured staff emphasise the intimate warmth and accessible luxury of this ‘delightful little gourmet temple’.

    andmorefood :: petrus, london

    The best meal I’ve had in london to date. fantastic european food in a ramsay powerhouse, and my favourite of the four (maze, claridges, royal hospital road) that I’ve visited.

    I’m going to start this by saying that the ramsay restaurants are usually overlooked or looked down on for their prescription service and pour-soup-into-your-dish-at-table type of dramatics, and that it went through a super-hyped period and now seem to form the wallflowers of fine dining in london. I’ve been a supporter, because I’ve had great meals in them (except for claridges which I did not enjoy) and service is always friendly...

  1. I’ve only eaten at one Gordon Ramsay establishment before – this was a set menu lunch at Maze a few years ago and I remember feeling decidedly underwhelmed. Petrus, however, had been highly recommended so we decided to treat ourselves. The service was faultless – all the attention and precision that one anticipates with a Michelin starred establishment but without any of the pretence or intrusiveness that really gets my goat. There’s nothing I hate more than being watched the whole time while I try to kick back and relax! The food was impeccable with a seemingly endless number of courses– no matter how many you mentally...

    Munch My Way :: Petrus, Knightsbridge

    have fond memories of Petrus.. I was here a couple of years ago for lunch and dinner and it was amazing.

    trus is a one Michelin star restaurant under the ownership of the infamous Gordon Ramsay and lead by head chef Sean Burbidge….

    The last time I was here the food was amazing especially the beef wellington but unfortunately today they don’t have that special memorial dish..

    Scotland Eats Out :: Scotland Eats Out: Review : Petrus.

    Petrus is a ridiculously expensive red wine and also the name of one of the most famous restaurants in the London fine dining scene. 1999 was the year Gordon Ramsey originally opened the restaurant in St James Street with Marcus Wareing as head chef. The Restaurant won its first Michelin star in 2000. In 2003 Petrus and Wareing moved to the Berkeley hotel and in 2007 it was awarded a second Michelin star.

    Following a dispute between Ramsey and Wareing in 2008, Wareing took over the lease at the Berkeley hotel and opened his own Restaurant “Marcus Wareing at the Berkeley” while Ramsey kept the rights to the...
