A new exponent of remarkable modish cooking, Paradise Garage is the latest venture from Robin and Sarah Gill (of The Dairy and The Manor in Clapham). Occupying a converted railway arch, this venue epitomises the on-trend East End eatery with its concrete floor, white tiles, filament lightbulbs and flashes of turquoise. Otherwise, colour and thrills come from the funky high-impact food – a procession of Nordic-influenced small plates punctuated by fermented, smoked or cured ingredients. Pick and mix from the snacks, share a rabbit picnic (roast saddle, confit leg, turnover, offal and bacon with chicory and artichoke piccalilli) or plunder the full menu – we particularly liked the complex tomato salad with smoky eel jelly and fermented tomato chutney, while tender pork presa with pig's head terrine and coco beans was satisfying modern comfort fodder of the best sort. Experimental food like this is sure to divide opinion, but that's part of the fun.

Paradise Garage is the third restaurant opening from chef Robin Gill. Unlike The Dairy and The Manor which are both south of the river in Clapham, Paradise Garage lives in Bethnal Green inside a converted railway arch on Paradise Row.With The Dairy and The Manor consistently delivering the most exquisite tasting menus on the planet, as soon as I spotted Paradise Garage was officially open for business I cancelled reservations elsewhere and booked a Saturday lunch sitting. As we settled in for the afternoon we were treated to a complimentary cocktail and an appetiser of pea purée, peppery radishes and paper...

Based on Paradise Row in Bethnal Green, just a few doors down from Mission, this is the third restaurant from Robin Gill – he also owns the ever popular Dairy and Manor in Clapham. It’s a really cute space with turquoise banquettes round the edge and bar stools overlooking the open bar and kitchen; there’s a slight Soho House feel to things. Our tattoo-laden waitress was possibly the friendliest we’ve come across; a total charmer. We opted for the tasting menu (£45) even though plenty from the a la carte sounded right up my alley...

This railway arch restaurant will set your heart racingUnless you walk around London, it’s hard to appreciate just how close many of the city’s neighbourhoods are to each other. Bethnal Green has the City and Shoreditch directly on its western border, while Mile End and Stratford sit to its east. It’s therefore unsurprising that there are plenty of ‘hipsters’ and students in Bethnal Green and it’d be tempting to dismiss Paradise Garage has a gentrified folly for the former. This latest restaurant from the masterminds behind The Dairy and The Manor is set in an old railway arch, looking out over...

One of the new hip restaurants opening in London in the last couple of weeks. Run by the same cook who was at the helm of the highly rated Manor and Diary. Having been to neither of these restaurants, our hopes were built upon crowd expectations and we had high hopes of finding our own nirvana at Paradise Garage.First up to whet our appetite after having braved the far east (i.e. Bethnal Green) was a delightful pea mousse, wonderfully light along with lovely lightly fried potato skins. A delightful way to start the meal...

The team behind The Dairy in Clapham and its sister restaurant The Manor doesn’t really need an introduction – certainly not by me, as I can’t really claim to be much of a regular there. I have admired the establishments from afar, and only once squeezed a business lunch at The Dairy, which I really liked but went undocumented (i.e. non- Instagrammed or tweeted) as I didn’t want to reveal myself as the shallow social-media addict showoff that I am in a work context. I mostly blame my laziness when it comes to go both West AND South of the river from my East London bubble, although I do travel when a place proves to...

It was a rather beautiful day in early May when a group of us visited Paradise Garage to celebrate William’s birthday.Having wanted to visit Robin Gill’s restaurants for some time (owner of the ever-popular Dairy and Manor restaurants in Clapham), I can’t say that I was disappointed by William’s choice of venue, Robin’s third and latest venture, the ultra-hip east London “Paradise Garage” for his birthday celebrations.Located conveniently amongst a strip of buzzing bars with outdoor seating, perfect for these summers evenings (who am I kidding?), the restaurant is spread over two floors, but all open...
