Square Meal Review of Paradise by way of Kensal Green ?

GK Chesterton coined the phrase, which was clearly too much for the owners to resist – although the quirky moniker fits nicely with the oddball feel of this Kensal Green fun palace. From the wildly decadent interiors (marble busts, swirling drapes, chandeliers, grandiose paintings) to live bands and DJs, there’s a lot going on here – although the kitchen also puts plenty of effort into the food. Sit in the lavishly attired restaurant and enjoy seasonal dishes made from fresh locally sourced ingredients: Seared beef carpaccio, rocket, parmesan and roasted beetroot vinaigrette; Grilled prawns, avocado fattoush salad, tahini yoghurt and Spiced poussin with Jersey Royal potato salad, harissa aioli. With a great conservatory, private dining rooms, ‘cheeky Sunday roasts’ and more besides, this place has good-time distractions at every turn.

A Lot of Chop :: Rhubarb in Paradise

‘One bowl, two spoons’ may just be the biggest mistake I make this year. Two reasons for this. Let me explain.

The first is that my lady has a sister and three brothers. So whilst I may think I know my way round the plate, she’s trained and positively owns it. It was pudding time and immediately I was scolded for ‘mixing’ the crumble with the custard. Mon fucking Dieu!
I was afforded the luxury of no more than three mouthfuls. ‘another bite and you won’t get a massage later’ etc. etc. This was some machiavellian dining...

  1. I don't want to give away too much about the fantastic dining room of Paradise by Way of Kensal Green. If you've never been, it's worth a bit of uncertainly for the wonderful surprise of seeing the interiors for the first time. And, of course, if you have been then you know what I'm talking about. Nice place for a drink, eh? But have you tried the Sunday lunch? It's full-on (and filling!) and as lovely as you might expect to enjoy in such a pleasant setting...

  1. Last Christmas there was an American Expat gathering at The Paradise. The bar staff even had egg nog ready for the group of homesick expats. On that occasion I didn’t stay very long, but while I was there I noticed a room off the main bar that was hosting a Christmas dinner party. The group were seated around a long table with huge candelabras and looked like they were having a blast. After seeing that party I knew I wanted to return and give the food a try!

When I made my return visit not long ago I was able to see more of the venue than just the front bar. We ate in the restaurant at the back and then had...
