Square Meal Review of Motcombs ?

Whilst ultra-grand and über-fashionable restaurants come and go in Belgravia, evergreen Motcombs just keeps on keeping on – its irresistible blend of good humoured, old-fashioned hospitality, comfort and geniality would be priceless if it could be bottled, and there’s nothing quite like it hereabouts. One menu is served throughout, whether you’re socialising in the snappy bar and bistro or taking advantage of the snug corners in the formal dining room downstairs. Either way, loyal locals are lured by plates of Caesar salad, calf’s liver with crispy pancetta, fishcakes with lobster sauce and other international stalwarts – all backed by sensibly priced everyday wines and some special-occasion big hitters. Motcombs is also ideal if you want to hang out with the smart shootin’ set for the first grouse of the season.

Man in London :: Man in London: Motcombs

Hearty greetings from the locals at the bar, slipping down below the iconic neon sign into a large, but intimate basement dining room aglint with crystal and decked with art for superb grub and bubbles is a rather special and, sadly, disappearing experience.
Motcombs, now Belgravia’s unashamedly most famous restaurant, opened in 1982 and is the fiefdom of Philip Lawless, a genial host, and as well as a place he actually eats, showcases his wonderful and eclectic art.

  1. I love a good old fashion glam dining now and then. It reminds me when we use to go to restaurants, and we understood the menu straight away - No fuss and no fancy wording. I enjoyed an animated and incredibly beautiful dinner with my friends Tracey, Jeanne and Alan at Motcombs.
Eating at Motcombs in the Belgravia area of London is quite an experience. It is nestled between 5-star hotels, Harvey Nichols and designer shops, the likes of Christian Louboutin.
