Square Meal Review of Margaux ?

Downtown New York is recreated in the unlikely setting of Old Brompton Road at Margaux, where the thoughtfully assembled, 200-strong wine list and modern European cooking have proved a big hit. The brick walls, low-hanging lights and bar dining area are pure NY, but in contrast the food is all about clean, continental flavours – matching an Old World wine list that’s delivered by glamorous waiters exhibiting deep wine knowledge. Our lightly seared swordfish with confit tomatoes and a sharp, sweet vinaigrette was perfectly paired with a 2011 Les Chailloux Burgundy; and tender ibérico pork with baby fennel and a pineapple compote was partnered by an Au Bon Climat 2010 Pinot Noir from California. Wines by the 75ml glass mean that even the most expensive options are worth considering. For afters, indulge in a delightful raspberry mousse with rose sorbet – and some celeb spotting. “I love it!” declares a fan.
