If you’re looking for a bargain on Lots Road, you’re more likely to find one at this tidy gastropub rather than at the auction house opposite. Refectory tables and stripped-wood interiors might be ten a penny these days, but it’s the attention to detail and attractively priced menu that puts this “proper pub” a rung above some of its rivals. At the bar, big-name brews and craft beers appear alongside more interesting ales such as Camden Hells – perfect if you simply fancy grabbing a burger. There are also some appealing wines by the glass to go with a menu of ‘sharing plates’ and ‘large plates’ – think salmon ceviche or chorizo and Parmesan croquettes ahead of baja-battered haddock, rib-eye and fries or marsh lamb cutlets with fregola and petits-pois cassoulet. For afters, try chocolate fondant with berry compote.
