Square Meal Review of Le Chinois ?

If you’re on a business trip and fancy some comforting crispy duck, this modern Chinese on the second floor of The Millennium Hotel might fit the bill. The refurbished dining room may “lack soul” and service is out of the corporate training manual, but the kitchen has plenty to offer in the way of Cantonese-style food. Dim sum are served until 5pm, and it’s worth noting the set ‘afternoon tea’, which includes a glass of Champagne to go with your crispy chicken sticks, BBQ pork buns and scallop rolls. Otherwise, the hefty menu trawls its way through the full repertoire – from double-boiled chicken soup or soft-shell crab to lobster with ginger and spring onions, beef with black bean sauce or baked pork ribs with garlic. Also look out for pan-Asian additions such as crispy Thai lamb or pork chop with Malaysian curry sauce.

  1. Dining in a hotel restaurant is one of my favourite things at the moment, i think you can get more of an experience out of it. Waltzing in through the lobby, round some spiral staircases with art work across the walls, and then of course the restaurant itself. I also find the service to be much more polished. Le Chinois is clearly advertised on Sloane Street offering high quality chinese food, which won’t break the bank. It's the younger sibling of award winning restaurant Hua Ting in Singapore...

Add in the appropriate time of day (Afternoon), some tea and more often than not, a group of women to coo over a series of treats attractively presented on a tray and catch up on their life goings’ on. And so it happened with Le Chinois’s Chinese Dim Sum afternoon tea. An addition of all the above ingredients swirled together and served up.

I’m totally on board with this, sometimes the afternoon teas can get a little too sweet and as a fan of Chinese food, I don’t get to eat good Dim Sum often enough with a bunch of friends and so it’s with a spring in my step...

  1. The end of January is fast approaching and with it comes another chance to give those New Year’s Resolutions a go when China celebrates its New Year on February 19th. If you’re looking for something a little bit different from a takeaway to bring in the Chinese New Year then why not try a dim sum afternoon tea at Millennium Hotel in Knightsbridge?

The dim sum afternoon tea was created by the head chef at Le Chinois who was inspired by the popularity of the traditional afternoon tea. “Why,” thought he, “couldn’t there be a dim sum alternative?”
