One reader who was expecting some hot dogs at Bubbledogs ended up being blown away by the “very special” tasting menu served in this exclusive 19-seater venue at the back of the place. The Kitchen Table is a showcase for chef/proprietor James Knappett’s take on high-end contemporary cooking, and he has already picked up a Michelin star for his efforts. Lucky diners can look forward to plenty of surprises as the team chat their way through the evening’s offerings: single-word descriptions give nothing away (‘oyster’, ‘asparagus’, ‘goat’, ‘orange’), but notable successes have ranged from chicken skin with grilled onion and burrata milk to a combo of hay, strawberry, malt and sweet cicely. “I remember loving every single thing I ate”, comments one contented diner. Matching wines include plenty of lesser-known names from small producers, as well as Bubbledogs’ signature ‘grower’ Champagnes. Booking essential.

The dual venue is by husband and wife team, Sandia Chang and James Knapett, as sommelier and chef both have considerable experience at some of the best restaurants in the world. Last weekend I had a real treat. Some time at the end of last year a plan was made to visit The Kitchen Table at Bubbledogs, a chef's table run by James Knappett that won its first Michelin star last year.
