Situated midway along the New Kent Road, Habesha brings a taste of Ethiopia to SE1 with its chill-out surrounds and rustic, peasant-style food. Most items on the menu are built for sharing and the
kitchen is true to its native ingredients, sourcing everything from spicy mitmita seasoning to teff flour for a range of dishes that might run from triangular sambusa pastries and kinchea (steamed
cracked wheat with flavoured butter and herbs) to rustic stews and grills served with injera – a traditional flatbread used to pick up the food by hand. As for drinks, expect a selection of juices,
soft drinks and European wines as well as some typical African tipples – honey wine, Harrar beer and mint tea; you can also partake of a typical Ethiopian coffee ceremony here – the perfect excuse
to while away an afternoon.
