There’s no doubt Londoners fell hard for steaming bowls of ramen. But how many of us are just as interested in those scrumptious little steamed parcels packed with meat, salmon or vegetables, which arrive fried, grilled or steamed to satiate us while we wait? This clean-lined, minimalist restaurant has put bundles of dumpling delight in the spotlight and we have no doubt that people will go mad for them. Treat it as new-wave pick ‘n’ mix: dip into as many varieties as you fancy, safe in the knowledge that they’re made onsite using organic ingredients from local suppliers. If you’re still hungry, our other favourite steamed food, bao, are on offer alongside crispy tofu with teriyaki. With a decent cocktail and saké list too, we’re sure there’ll be queues around the corner for this one.
Another day and another new opening in the West End. And what’s the only thing better than a dumpling den?! Obviously, it’s a crispy dumpling diner! Yes, I&m not entirely sure that’s a thing either, but it’s all a matter of semantics and I&m shying away from the proper debate because almost a year ago, I vaguely recall getting in a cuffudle over the char siu bao / hirata bun / gua bao distinction when Bao opened its doors in Soho – now I find myself in a tizz over the between the potsticker the gyoza since the opening of Gyoza Bar last month in Covent Garden, next door to Murakami.
