Square Meal Review of Gin Joint ?

A fresh-faced Barbican resident, this Searcys operation occupies a prime position on the complex’s second floor, its south-facing windows overlooking a lakeside terrace and St Giles church. Gin-lovers should head for the bar, which revels in the stuff (there’s even a Broker’s chilled gin tap on the counter). Mother’s ruin
also makes inventive appearances on the modern brasserie-style menu, for instance pickled mackerel with Beefeater gin jelly, or a G&T granita. Otherwise, you’ll find bountiful barbecue flavours from the Bertha grill (Barnsley chop, rib-eye) along with main courses such as baked pollock with white bean purée, made zesty with orange and cardamom. ‘Gin democracy’ runs 5-8pm daily, when any gin can be tried for one standard price. Juniper refuseniks have an international wine list to peruse and a selection of British cheeses to complement. Plush, smart decor and a relaxed mood make Gin Joint “a great find for City lunchers”.
