The owners describe this quirky café as their ‘love child’ and have certainly lavished a great deal of TLC on every aspect of the place. There are cute touches everywhere, from the big bare lights, heavy concrete counter, chintzy seats and mismatched vintage crockery to the old gym horse used as a table in the basement. Hand-baked cakes and breads are the top shouts, along with sourdough pizzas, savoury filled buns and all manner of breakfast/brunch staples including a dressed-up version of French toast loaded with ham, cheese, béchamel sauce and honey mustard. Among the sweet treats, don’t miss the chocolate brownies, banana bread or lemon meringue cupcakes. Coffee is taken seriously, with beans sourced from artisan suppliers and water purified using reverse osmosis; otherwise fresh teas, creative cocktails, craft beers and wines do the trick. No bookings.
