Square Meal Review of First Edition ?

Despite its location in the heart of the corporate playground that is the Wharf, stepping into First Edition is like walking into a giant beach hut, with whitewashed wood and deckchair stripes in abundance. There are even photos from Brighton artists on the wall. This independently run riverside restaurant and wine bar is the work of a former Vegas showgirl; and the family-run operation is about to celebrate its 20th anniversary. Calamari fritti is a big after-work hit, and fish dishes such as fresh tuna steak with salad and fries, or crunchy coconut king prawns, add to the seaside vibe – as does the outdoor patio. In other respects, the menu strides the globe, listing rabbit biryani alongside sea bass ravioloni with crustacean sauce. The owners are passionate about wine and the list is worth exploring – from the budget Australian Cab/Shiraz to the Montrachet.
